Ukraine Must Be Partitioned and It Will Be

For the safety of the entire world the bloody century of atrocity in Ukraine needs to be ended. Russia can and will do the job

Ukraine has never been an area that could become a unified country, not even a compromise federation on the American model (and by the way, has the American Civil War ever really ended?). The hatreds between the west of the Ukraine and the area basically east of the Dnieper River go back a century to the campaign of genocide against those considered to be slavic waged by the dying Austro-Hungarian Empire. But for brevity’s sake let’s review how it played out during World War Two when the USSR and Hitler’s Nazi armies fought for the area. The Ukrainian “nationalists” who fought with the German Nazis in Stepan Bandera’s OUN movement, and killed hundreds of thousands during the war even early on when actual Russian troops were not even in the country yet, fought an underground guerrilla war against the USSR in western Ukraine that cost thousands of lives between 1945 and 1954. And the area has been infested with Neo-Nazis all this time. West of the Dnieper the majority population is Ukrainian speaking and the politicians who came from the area never had any love for Russia. The east of Ukraine is overwhelmingly Russian in language and culture. These peoples, Ukrainian speaking and Russian speaking, are neighbours and relatives of one another and never had any problem getting along as people. They want to forget the dead past and get on with making a peaceful future. 

But the possibility of that is now dead. This latest irruption of civil war, fuelled mostly by Washington's and London’s ambitions to conquer Russia, has killed the possibility of any unified Ukrainian nation stone dead. It’s been 8 years of post-Maiden-Coup Kiev shelling and raping and murdering the ethnic Russians of Lugansk and Donetsk and repressing and murdering the ethnic Russians of Odessa, Mykolaev, Kherson, Zaporozhia, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kharkov and threatening to make war on Crimea. Neo-Nazis dominate Kiev and western Ukraine and they have never promised the ethnic Russian east anything but death. 

If ever there was a border that needed to be re-drawn separating two areas that should never and could never have been made into a nation that border is the border of Ukraine. Partition of Ukraine is needed now. And Russia is going to do it. Even as late as last year that was the last thing Russia wanted to get involved in. But Washington couldn’t leave it alone. So now it’s got to be done. And done it will be. The alternative would have been a victorious, hostile, Washington-armed Nazi army right on Russia’s border and advancing to besiege the nuclear armed Russian Black Sea Fleet at Sevastopol. 

That was never going to be permitted. Right now there is a lot of worry on our side of the barricades about Sweden and Finland joining NATO. There’s worried talk about that being a cause of Russia having to invade Finland. The Russians say it’s not in the cards. There is no reason for Russia to be worried about Finland so no reason for the Fins to worry. Finland is not Ukraine. There are no ethnic Russians in Finland or Sweden. There are no territorial disputes between Russia and Sweden or Finland. NATO has always been de facto the guarantor of Sweden and Finland so making that official is not really that big a deal from the Russian point of view. And if NATO/US is no match for Russia in Ukraine, and they aren’t, NATO is certainly no worry for Russia up in Finland.

In 2015 I was working on UBC campus as an usher at our Chan concert hall. I came to work one late afternoon to usher for a concert by a Russian Chamber Orchestra and found to my surprise that a handful of protesters were quietly assembled in the small plaza at our entrance. They were holding up blue and yellow Ukrainian flags but among these were red and black flags. Two or three UBC campus security guards were in our lobby looking nervous. I asked one what were these red and black flags. She said they were “fascist flags”. I looked it up. Sure enough our campus security people knew the score quite accurately. That was the beginning of my education. 

Yugoslavia was similarly vulnerable to having ethnic hatreds whipped up and fuelled and armed and the breakup of the nation which the USSR tried so hard to hold together was the sad and bloody result in 1993 and in 1999 the US/NATO ripped Kosovo away from Serbia to turn it into a narco-state. 

Now Washington and London are trying to lie to us all saying that there are no Nazis in Kiev and in fact it’s President Putin who should be compared to Hitler. I recently had an idiot who used to work for NGOs and the Afghan Canadian Embassy parrot that insane stupidity to my face, so I think I can assume that’s the Nazified line of bullshit our Canadian government declares to be orthodox.

Washington and Ottawa and London are all bleating about Russia breaking up poor sovereign, unified, democratic Ukraine (at least three lies in one breath, that). But Russia figures that the sauce that was good for the Yugoslavian goose ought to be good for the Ukrainian gander. “We” ripped off Kosovo and partitioned Yugoslavia and that set a precedent for the partitioning of Ukraine. 

I’m on the Russian side. Nobody gets to tell me the Kiev “nationalists” aren’t Nazis and nobody gets to tell me the Ukrainian Canadian community isn’t dominated by Neo-Nazis and crypto-fascists like our Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland, granddaughter of a Nazi publisher in World War Two. 

None of that matters a damn on the battlefield in Donbas or anywhere east of the Dnieper. The US arms that Washington says it will deliver are useless junk even if they reach the front line, which they mostly won’t. And as for the money? Congress has pledged $54 billion to Ukraine so far. Every year between 2002 and 2021 Washington spent a yearly average of $20 billion on the war in Afghanistan alone. How’d that turn out? Washington is sucked dry. The USA has been sucked dry by Washington and now, far from defending the borders of Ukraine, Washington can’t even defend the borders of Texas or California even if Washington wanted to which they don't. 

The Kiev Nazis can murder civilians for a while yet but their time is coming on a bad-ass Russian train. Every civilian they kill proves Russia’s point. When the Nazis get captured in droves and Ukraine gets partitioned nobody east or west is going to be sad about it. And there’ll be no nuclear war, bet on it.
